The perfect summer pedicure- without breaking the bank.

I’m a girl who loves a good mani//pedi any time of year. Summers especially because, hello! those fancy feet are on display, all the time. The awesome people at Julep reached out to see if I would like to share my tips for the best summer pedicure. Well, of course I do! I started doing my own nails all the time when I came to college. I wasn’t about shelling out the $20+ to get my nails done, plus doing them can be a fun night with the girls!

So to help you guys out, I decided to share my perfect summer pedicure with tools that can all be found at Walmart. And stay tuned to the bottom of the post for a secret war to make your nails dry extra fast!

Step 1:

IMG_6816

Clean toes. Remove any nail polish you have on there.

Step 2:

Exfoliate! Take a little foot file to smooth calluses//remove dead skin and make those feet soft & flawless. This one was from Walmart, but Julep has a great one too if you want to check it out. Only $6!

IMG_6819

Follow up with some lotion.

IMG_6647

Step 3:

Time to take care of those cuticles. I don’t know about y’all, but my cuticles seem to grow so fast over here. I hate it. But if you keep some of these cuticle sticks around, you’re good to go! These ones are throw away, and I think the whole back was less than $1 at Walmart. If you are looking for a more lasting one, try a cuticle pusher like this from Julep.

Step 4:

File! Get those nails ready for polish. I like my nails rounded, but whatever your style is, go for it.

IMG_6824

IMG_6826

Step 5:

It’s time for the polish! I decided to go for something a little more funky to celebrate the fun summer spirit. I used Essie’s Sand Tropez as the base coat (2 layers) then followed it with a fun stripe of red on each nail. I found this”Salon Perfect” red polish with the skinny brush at Walmart, in the clearance bin! Such a score. I can’t wait to see what fun combinations I can come up with this summer 🙂

IMG_6829Bonus Step 6: The fastest drying nails you will ever see

IMG_6650

I learned this trick last year and it has changed my life… no shame. I can now paint my nails and leave the house in 5 minutes. After painting your nails, simply take cooking spray– Pam, coconut oil spray.. those are the only two I have tried but I think it has more to do with the oil/spray than what type of oil it is. Spray a good amount on each nail, then wait 5-10 seconds. Your nails are now completely dry. It’s magical. Now wash your hands, gently wipe the oil off with a paper towel.

The only catch to this trick is that your nail polish will still ‘dent’ in a weird way. For example, I did this one time and was fine doing everything but when I went to put leggings on the nails smudged a little.

There you have it, the perfect summer pedicure without breaking the bank!

P.S. If you guys haven’t heard of Julep (<– affiliate link), you should check them out! They have a great site, with a store, quizzes, and an extensive blog with fun beauty and fashion tips. I just ordered their Julep Maven Box (free with a code right now!) and can’t wait to explore their site and products more.

*note: although Julep reached out to me for this post, I was not compensated for anything, and all opinions are my own!*

Questions:

What are your must-haves for the perfect summer pedicure?!

America the Beautiful

Happy (late) 4th of July y’all! I hope your Fridays were work-free and fun!

I woke up nice and early, and decided to go for a walk and have some quiet time before the festivities of the day began around campus. I passed by a 5K on my walk and felt super awkward being that person who’s walking through the race… oops! I got off their path as soon as I could.

IMG_6382

Breakfast

I whipped up a random plate of goodies- 2 eggs, asparagus, and a banana with the last of my chocolate hazelnut butter 😢.

IMG_6383

The rest of my morning was a combination of medical school applications, cleaning, and a little fun nail painting.

IMG_6392

America. I couldn’t resist.

Lunch

Lunch came a little later as a bunch of thrown together leftovers. Spaghetti squash, asparagus, tomato sauce, and some crispy bacon on top. Carrots + hummus on the side.

IMG_6391

For a fun afternoon break from our work, I met up with the boyfriend and we finished watching The King’s Speech. It was amazing. I’m probably the last person on the planet who hadn’t seen it, but if you live under a movie rock like me, this is one movie you should venture out for!

Workout

An afternoon workout in the cool AC of my apartment was perfection. I did an hour circuit loosely following this Jillian Michael’s video on YouTube. I was sweating up a storm by the end. I repped my America shirt (space camp…. yes I’m a space camp kid ha) for the workout, I think it gave me the extra push at the end ;).

IMG_6395

IMG_6394

Rehydrating with berry delicious water.

The rest of the evening was spent celebrating with my favorite boys. We started off grilling behind our apartments. Grass fed burgers, watermelon, Cape Cod chips, and the most delicious grilled corn you’ve ever tasted.

  IMG_6401

 IMG_6404

My mini burgers. The boys made fun of me, but they were perfectly cooked, ha!

IMG_6405

For the corn, we just wrapped it up in foil and cooked it on the grill the whole time the burgers were cooking. It was sweet and melt in your mouth amazing.

After dinner, we headed out to make our own fireworks show… the boys were loving it. We bought some fun little things and then headed over to their fraternity house to light them off.

IMG_6413

We had a great time. The only downside were the literally hundreds of bugs that ate us up. Oh well, the sacrifices we make for fireworks, right?

IMG_6460

To end the night… the boys had a little fun with their fire pit. Classic.

IMG_6461

We headed back to our apartments after that and hung out with some visiting friends before calling it a night!

Happy 4th Weekend!

Question of the day:

What are your big plans for the weekend?

since.

So, since I haven’t been checking in lately, I’ll give you guys some random pictures, plus my Saturday antics!

Life “since”:IMG_3280 IMG_3279

IMG_3319  IMG_3322

^watching the boys play soccer….which led to me being captivating by my shadow. It’s the simply things guys.^

IMG_3331

^I am in love with this new Christmas tumbler. It just makes workouts so much more fun!^

IMG_3283

^isn’t he just the cutest? Drinking the beer he brewed himself!^

IMG_3410

^salad with chips, apple, cucumber, lettuce, and hummus.^

IMG_3276

^when in doubt.. add goat cheese. I needed to spice up some frozen kale, and this more than did the trick!^

 IMG_3327 (1)

^Last dinner with my gorgeous roomie! Mahi Mahi burgers, quinoa, goat cheese, and roasted pearl onions + brussels sprouts. This was amazing. Goat cheese has a special place in my heart.^

IMG_3414

^Healthy dessert one night. Banana, pumpkin, cinnamon, and one hershey’s kiss for a treat!^

IMG_3332

^The last meal before I headed home from school. I went all out with fries, I live a wild life. And a black bean burger under all those vegetables.^

IMG_3336

^Airport salad, not too shabby BWI! Chopped vegetables, with avocado on top.^

Saturday:

IMG_3419

IMG_3420

IMG_3422

Saturday morning consisted of crafts, baking, and general preparations for all the Christmas gatherings we’ll be having at our house over the next few days. The funny thing is that we won’t even be here for Christmas Eve/Day, but there will be lots of activities before then.

After some work around the house in the morning, I met a friend out to get manicures and do some shopping. My color came out a lot lighter than I thought 😦 but…later I painted over with a gold color I love! I’ll post that tomorrow. Besides– the most important part of the manicure is getting them to clean up your nails, right?!

IMG_3425

IMG_3426IMG_3427

^After shopping, we stopped in at a new restaurant, Sweet ‘n’ Savory in Port Jefferson, to try their crepes. We split and Eggplant Crepe and a Berries and Creme Crepe. They were enormous and so so delicious. Anyone in the Long Island area, you HAVE to try these. You will be more than satisfied.^

IMG_3430

^For family dinner, I wasn’t too hunger {did you see those crepes?!}, so I stuck with the vegetable sides. Spaghetti squash, roasted broccoli, and broiled asparagus. Yum!^

IMG_3431

^And to round out the night… a workout. 30 minutes of intervals on the Elliptical, and 20 minutes of Arc intervals. Nice and sweaty, in under an hour!^

Off to the family holiday party!

Happy Fall!

What looks are you loving this season?

lately and coming up!

I’m off on a roadtrip this morning! before I left I thought I’d catch you all up on the past few days!

IMG_1581

thursday:

IMG_1574

 IMG_1575

^on thursday I started the morning with some protein {pancake style} and some apple! It was the perfect fuel. Followed by a giant water coffee before my final exam. Surprisingly I sort of felt the final was the ‘easiest’ exam of them all! The material was obviously more comprehensive, but for once I was able to keep myself calm and not stressed, which was HUGE in not forgetting the 100+ hours of studying! I completely owe my mindset to the amazing devotional I did the morning before the test:

IMG_1535

….I don’t know why I don’t always do this!^

IMG_1577

^after the test, I was ECSTATIC^

IMG_1585IMG_1592

^the food I devoured after my test. 2.5 hours of testing {plus the bike there and back} on 1 little protein pancake + apple…. I didn’t really think that through ha. And the container of hummus that I polished off… definitely not a rare occurrence around here.^

IMG_1587

IMG_1586IMG_1588

IMG_1589

^the rest of the afternoon consisted of a sister date 🙂 Not only am I off to school this week, but my sister is moving to Ireland for graduate school! My class kept me pretty busy, on the study grind :(, so as soon as I was done {literally, not ‘literally’} we headed off for some quality sister time.^

IMG_1579

^and later in the afternoon…a run for my half marathon training! Just a base run, so nothing fast or crazy.. it was hot outside ! ^

friday:

 IMG_1616

IMG_1606

^the entire day was spent with my sweet sweet Krista, before she headed down to TN on Saturday. Totally worth it. I love her. Friends > workouts. Gotta just live your life sometimes 🙂 Also- that brunch was incredible! I love when KP and I brunch because we always split things- it’s the best because you can try lots without ordering 5 things!^

Saturday:

On Saturday I paid for not really organizing by spending the first 3/4 of the day packing and loading my car…oops. Then I was able to have some fun!

IMG_1626IMG_1625IMG_1624IMG_1591

^farmer’s market haul with my Momma. I get my love of veggies from her 🙂 We sort of over bought…oops- considering we’re leaving on a roadtrip today…. it just lead to a veggie filled dinner- no complaints from me! On another note- did y’all know how many types of eggplant there are?! White eggplants are freaky, but baby eggplants are CUTE. Ha. I get too attached to my vegetables…^

 IMG_1594

^Tiny tomatoes…these are local from Long Island, and the BEST. They’re like cherry tomatoes on steroids (expect they’re all natural of course)^

IMG_1595IMG_1596

^size comparison. and shameless selfies of course. What else?^

IMG_1597

IMG_1593 IMG_1572

^a semblance of the veggie monster dinners we made for the fam.^

workout: no pictures! I biked to the gym and did the arc for 40 minutes plus ‘open stride’ a machine I’ve never tried before- it’s cool because you basically push yourself as hard or as easy as you want based on the length of your stride and how hard you press down… I’ll be investigating more!^

IMG_1632

^aaaaand….a preview of a delicious snack…I’ll be posting the recipe soon!^

so that’s it y’all! This morning {in like a half hour…I should probably…be getting ready. oh well.} we’re off to our first stop, I’ll be sure to take lots of pictures and share!

hasta luego chicos!
