The perfect summer pedicure- without breaking the bank.

I’m a girl who loves a good mani//pedi any time of year. Summers especially because, hello! those fancy feet are on display, all the time. The awesome people at Julep reached out to see if I would like to share my tips for the best summer pedicure. Well, of course I do! I started doing my own nails all the time when I came to college. I wasn’t about shelling out the $20+ to get my nails done, plus doing them can be a fun night with the girls!

So to help you guys out, I decided to share my perfect summer pedicure with tools that can all be found at Walmart. And stay tuned to the bottom of the post for a secret war to make your nails dry extra fast!

Step 1:

Clean toes. Remove any nail polish you have on there.

Step 2:

Exfoliate! Take a little foot file to smooth calluses//remove dead skin and make those feet soft & flawless. This one was from Walmart, but Julep has a great one too if you want to check it out. Only $6!

Follow up with some lotion.

Step 3:

Time to take care of those cuticles. I don’t know about y’all, but my cuticles seem to grow so fast over here. I hate it. But if you keep some of these cuticle sticks around, you’re good to go! These ones are throw away, and I think the whole back was less than $1 at Walmart. If you are looking for a more lasting one, try a cuticle pusher like this from Julep.

Step 4:

File! Get those nails ready for polish. I like my nails rounded, but whatever your style is, go for it.

Step 5:

It’s time for the polish! I decided to go for something a little more funky to celebrate the fun summer spirit. I used Essie’s Sand Tropez as the base coat (2 layers) then followed it with a fun stripe of red on each nail. I found this”Salon Perfect” red polish with the skinny brush at Walmart, in the clearance bin! Such a score. I can’t wait to see what fun combinations I can come up with this summer 🙂

IMG_6829Bonus Step 6: The fastest drying nails you will ever see

I learned this trick last year and it has changed my life… no shame. I can now paint my nails and leave the house in 5 minutes. After painting your nails, simply take cooking spray– Pam, coconut oil spray.. those are the only two I have tried but I think it has more to do with the oil/spray than what type of oil it is. Spray a good amount on each nail, then wait 5-10 seconds. Your nails are now completely dry. It’s magical. Now wash your hands, gently wipe the oil off with a paper towel.

The only catch to this trick is that your nail polish will still ‘dent’ in a weird way. For example, I did this one time and was fine doing everything but when I went to put leggings on the nails smudged a little.

The JCrew Warehouse Sale + Weekend Randoms.

Hey there! The weekend has come and gone, way too quickly as usual. I’ll survive, though, because I am actually really excited for this week because– 1. Friday is the 4th and there’s lots of fun (fireworks and bbq) to be had and 2. I have finally officially started my summer job, working with a Youth group at a local church. I’ll share more about it later, but I am really looking forward to seeing where God brings me with this experience.

This weekend was lots of randomness + business.
On Saturday morning, Nathan and I woke up pre-6 am to drive up to Asheville, NC for the J.Crew Warehouse Sale. If you haven’t heard of these sales– you are missing out. It’s essentially warehouse filled with boxes of J.Crew clothing for ridiculously  discounted prices. Once you’ve been to one of these sales it will pain you to buy J.Crew (or any major clothing brand, really) for their retail prices.

Weekend workouts = stress free, fun time for me. Plus they help me prepare mentally for a big week ahead!

A final delicious meal with the boyfriend this weekend. Chicken, peppers, squash, and wild rice with carrots, corn and peas. All topped with Thai red curry sauce.. #dontmindifIdo

J.Crew–love or hate?!

Favorites.

 I can’t believe another week has come and gone. But I am so glad! Working 8-4 in the lab this week (on Mon, Wed + Fri) was a lot of time in a quiet lab. Tuesday and Thursday I kept pretty busy with application work and errands. Busy, but good busy– with time to workout and relax.

I’ve been having the most fun watching soccer with America’s #1 soccer fan- my boyfriend! He is so so into the games, and I am definitely getting into them as well. It’s so fun to make little snacks and enjoy them while we cheer for our team. USA!!

La Croix is the most delicious summer drink! I don’t buy it too often because of the price, but sometimes you just crave that refreshing sip. I wish there was a sampler pack with all the flavors in it!

I am loving maxi dresses + skirts lately. It seems counter intuitive– long skirts in the hot summer? But the flawy feeling is so easy + breezy. Plus- what’s easier than throwing on a maxi dress– it’s already a full outfit!

Thinking Out Loud: Randomness + Happiness.

Thursdays are for… Thinking Out Loud.

1. This little boy makes me so happy. He runs around, up and down the stairs, and has the best little laugh. Walking with him (ok he rides in the stroller) and my mom every morning puts me in a good mood and make the rest of the day brighter.

2. Summer fashion. I am so looking forward to wearing cute outfits! In the month of May, I spent more time in leggings and a t-shirt than in ‘real clothes’. #studylife. But after I take the MCAT (Friday the 13 🙈🙈) I will be free and living in the real world (at least until I get my scores back ha! 😉). These summer outfits are giving me the shopping itch!

3. Father’s Day is almost here. Unfortunately it’s a week afterI leave home, so I won’t be able to celebrate with my dad. I am storing up some ideas though, for things to give him!

4. I’m not usually into drinking my calories, but on those hot summer days (which I’m sure there will be plenty of in South Carolina) a cool drink can be way better than a snack. Plus I love that this recipe (Watermelon Hibiscus Lime Cooler) has both a virgin//alcoholic option. Whatever your mood!

5. I figured that since I’m about to be a senior in college, I should probably learn how to do more than eyeliner + mascara. It’s a start!

6. Joy not just happiness- is found only when I walk with God. Such a perfect reminder on these long study days. God is with us!

Highlights.

Have you guys checked out the awesome blogger Monica over at Bravo For Paleo? You need to! She has a great website, and an e-book that is only $3 with a guide to Primal eating, and how you can manage it in college. ^^This is a banana pancake from her book- and the recipe is only 2 ingredients!^

Justin’s Nut Butters! This was my first jar of Justin’s and I am a total believer. This is basically the same thing as Nutella. Except it’s 100x “real-er”. You can taste the hazelnuts, and it is not loaded with sugar. A new staple.

Salads are my specialty around here. Especially at my college dining hall. There aren’t too many healthy options, so I usually go for all the veggies, some protein, and possible some cheese or almonds on top!

I wore real clothes multiple times this week. I consider that a win. It’s really tempting to wear leggings and a tshirt everyday- especially those days when I go from class to the lab to clubs…you get the picture!

I like to multitask when I’m stressed. Walking on the treadmill while studying- it allows me to get some activity in, while not neglecting my school work.

What I Did This Weekend!

Hey y’all! How was your weekend? Mine seemed to just fly by- isn’t that always the way?

Here’s the short version of my weekend!

Saturday:

On Saturday morning, I woke up early to get started on work and chores for the day. First up, I made some breakfast for myself, and a little later when NMK came over, breakfast for him as well!

While my boy was over, I did a little devotional and shared some prayer time with him. There is no better way to start the day.

Then it was homework time. Physics, Spanish, and MCAT work. Boring stuff, you guys don’t care about that!

A few hours later, I headed over to the dining hall for lunch with my roommate. The options were pretty slim, but I managed to get some good vegetables, some hummus, and a few chips for crunch.

The rest of the afternoon was spent studying. Boring.

I did manage to fit a workout in- 45 minutes of easy steady state on the Elliptical. Perfect for the weekend.

A little bit later, we gathered our Spring Break group to sort out details for the week. Next week is finally our Spring Break, and we’re going to Savannah, but I’ll fill you all in more after I make it through this crazy week!

We had planned to eat at our on-campus restaurant, but when we got there, the line was wrapped around and just horrifying. We ended up back at the good ole Dining Hall. Not my first choice for a Saturday night, but hey- free is free! ^^I ended up with some Moroccan Vegetable Stew and potatoes on the side. Simple and healthy {ish}.

After dinner, I finally took a break from homework and hung out with my boy and our friends for the rest of the night. Simple and fun.

Sunday:

Sunday was pretty much the same as Saturday– filled with homework. So I’ll just hit you guys with the details!

^^Workout– another 45 minutes on the Arc but this time it was a HIIT workout. And it nearly killed me. But in the best way ;)^^

Week in Reivew + Weekend Adventures {to come!}

 This week has been awesome. Busy, but awesome. I have had a lot of work to do in preparation for my trip this weekend. I’m leaving this morning for Orlando, and my half marathon! I cannot wait to share that experience with all of you!

Workouts this week were simple– Tuesday and Wednesday I went on some interval runs, to get my legs moving and in race mode! Yesterday, I stuck with a class 40 minutes on the Arc Trainer, just an easy stretch out. I’m hoping to get a workout in at the hotel tonight, but we’ll see where the day takes us!

^^All dressed up, nowhere to go. Actually, this was the last semi-chilly day we had this week {and it still got up to 65 midday.} The temperatures have been around 70 all week. Unreal! And now I’m off to Florida. One lucky girl!^^

^^I had a big interview yesterday, which is part of the reason this week has been so crazy! I get so nervous for these sort of things. I went with simple, all black, and a blue sweater for a little pop. I will hear back in a couple of weeks, so keep your fingers crossed for me!!^^

And now- I am off to throw a couple more things into my suitcase and head off to the airport! I am so excited for this weekend. My first half marathon is almost here!
